Frequent Asked Questions

What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session includes a comprehensive review of your medical history, symptoms, medications, lab data (if available), dietary patterns, and lifestyle factors. Together, we create a realistic, evidence-based plan tailored to your current health status and goals.

This is not a generic meal plan — it is individualized medical nutrition care.

Do you provide meal plans?

Yes — when appropriate. Some patients/clients benefit from structured meal plans. Others benefit more from strategy, education, and flexible frameworks. Recommendations are based on your medical needs, preferences, and readiness for change.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your condition and goals. Some patients/clients benefit from 1–2 focused sessions. Others managing chronic or complex conditions may benefit from ongoing support. Recommendations will be discussed during your initial consultation.

Do you work with oncology patients?

Yes. I provide nutrition support during and after cancer treatment, including guidance for appetite changes, GI side effects, weight changes, and recovery. Care is coordinated with your medical team when appropriate.

Do you help with tube feeding or TPN?

Yes. I provide assessment, calculation, caregiver education, and coordination support for enteral and parenteral nutrition. Medical orders must be written by your prescribing provider.

Can you review my labs?

Lab values can be thoughtfully reviewed as part of your comprehensive nutrition assessment. I provide evidence-based nutrition insight and recommendations while working collaboratively with your healthcare provider for any medical treatment decisions.

Is this only for people with serious medical conditions?

No. While I specialize in clinical nutrition, I also work with individuals seeking structured, evidence-based guidance for general health, prevention, and long-term wellness.

What if I’ve struggled with dieting in the past?

Many clients come to Sunshine RD feeling frustrated with restrictive or unsustainable approaches. Our work focuses on medical needs, nourishment, and realistic implementation — not extreme rules.

Do you work with caregivers and families?

Yes. Caregiver education and family involvement are often essential for successful nutrition implementation, particularly in complex medical cases.

Why private-pay?

Private-pay allows for:
Longer sessions
Deeper analysis
Lab review
Coordination with your care team
Flexible, individualized recommendations

Insurance-driven visits often limit time and scope. This model protects the quality of your care.

Do you offer packages?

For patients/clients requiring ongoing or intensive support, customized care packages may be available. These can be discussed after your initial consultation.

What makes Sunshine RD LLC different?

Sunshine RD LLC combines hospital-level clinical nutrition expertise with practical, real-life implementation. Care is structured, evidence-based, and individualized — designed to support both medical outcomes and daily life.

Do you accept insurance?
Sunshine RD LLC is a private-pay practice. This allows for longer visits, individualized care, and flexibility beyond insurance-driven limitations. A superbill can be provided upon request for possible reimbursement.

Can I use my HSA or FSA for nutrition services?

Yes. Health Savings Account (HSA) and Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards are accepted for eligible services.

According to IRS guidance (updated March 17, 2023), nutritional counseling may qualify as a medical expense when it is used to treat a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as diabetes or obesity). Nutrition services provided for general wellness purposes may not qualify.

We recommend confirming eligibility with your plan administrator or tax professional.
